Notes from the easel

I arrive early and tidy before painting. Not out of military discipline, but so the chaos of colour has a frame.

I use few large brushes and leave the fine ones for the end. If I start with detail, I lose structure.

When closing, I clean just enough. A studio that is too clean feels empty; a dirty one, blocked. I look for the middle ground.
